Westhoughton Sub Aqua Club

Branch 2295 of the British Sub Aqua Club

Our branch was formed 22 years ago with just 3 divers.

The club grew over the years to a membership of over 30 including Ian Ellison one of the original 3 founders.

Ian is currently our Diving Officer.

Unfortunately because of the pandemic our membership has suffered considerably and we are starting on a rebuilding process. Our ambition for 2023 is to regrow our membership and to acquire a club boat in the very near future.

We have weekly pool sessions on Thursday evenings from 8:30 to 9:30.
We have 3 qualified instructors and 2 assistant instructors so have plenty people available to provide training.

We run try dive nights each month and have plenty of kit available for prospective new divers to use.

As well as the base BSAC courses (Ocean Diver, Sports Diver etc) we also run Skill Development Courses including Life Saving, AED etc.

The club has organised a few trips to the Red Sea over the past few years and trips to a number of UK dive sites including The Farne Islands, Oban, Scapa Flow and Shetland.

There is a trip to Scapa Flow arranged for October 2023.

Branch mission statement

“WSAC exists to encourage and support underwater exploration and the study and conservation of underwater life, the exploration and survey of shipwrecks and any other undersea structures. Furthermore, WSAC specifically directs itself to the through and comprehensive teaching and practice of the knowledge and skills required to carry out underwater exploration in a safe and controlled manner. WSAC commits itself to encouraging, supporting and teaching without any prejudice to anyone who presents themselves to the club, willing and able to be a full diving member and to pay the club fees required of them.
